Ahoy me hearties!
I've received word from our fellow stitcher-in-arms, NevaSirenda, that a new book has been published! I've personally just seen an ad for her book in Just Cross-Stitch magazine this past week. Now, most, if not all of ye, are well-versed in the art of cross-stitching, but we do have many members who do not stitch and simply admire! This is a lovely opportunity to get started with a selection of easy cross-stitch patterns and instructions.
Here is the quote from NevaSirenda:
"It's called "I Can Cross Stitch" and is available through Annie's Publishing. It's a basic instructional book for tweens and teens with some fun projects on a variety of fabrics and products. (It SAYS "17 designs" but in fact it is 17 projects with a total of 27 designs. Or at least I did 27 designs; not saying if they all made the cut.) They range from little things like push pin covers and Altoid tins to purses and pillows. I don't know if it is in stores yet but you can get it online here: www.anniescatalog.com/detail.h… and probably Amazon and other places as well. It's also available as an electronic download.
I had a lot of fun designing this book and I think any beginning stitcher will enjoy learning with it. I tried to make all the projects very fun and funky but not overwhelming. There are a lot of little things that are quick to make and easy to learn on. I personally recommend starting with the perforated paper designs (a sheet of perf paper is included with the book) as stitching on perf paper can be much easier than fabric (you can see the holes really well) and it teaches you important skills like keeping your tension from getting too tight (you'll crumple the paper if you don't!) All of the designs are basic whole stitches and most take very few colors. As you learn and progress, you can work up to larger designs with more color changes. It's a book that grows with your experience.
If you've ever wanted to learn to cross stitch but found most patterns either too complicated or too childish and dull, give these a shot. And let me know what you think!"
I'll be putting her link in the advertisement journal, but think of this as a wonderful opportunity to both learn, introduce others, or downright give direct feedback to an artist hard at work! Yarr!
Don't forget yer contest is running till the last day of September (the 30th)! Ye still have time to stitch!! fav.me/d7oqako

Please give yer thanks and well-wishes to our judge and head contest coordinator, Mattsma (https://www.deviantart.com/mattsma). She has been a strong pillar in our stitching community and gone above and beyond the call of duty for us here at stitchingpirates (https://www.deviantart.com/stitchingpirates). She has been a wonderful personal friend to me. I will sorely miss her here on DA and as part of our crew on this crafty ship.
